Why is it that farts are so taboo in our society? WEll, maybe other than the fact the smell is so repulsive or that the sound is so whimsical to us, why are farts not compared to other bodily functions such as burping, body odor from sweating under the arms or just sweat in general? I believe that perhaps it is the idea that a sound coming from a cavity that is covered and never exposed in public (with the exception of nudist colonies) is quite amusing. The fact that farts, or as the professionals would like to call them, flatulence, is basically the passing of a gas through the air from your anus. The often rippling sound or highpitched sound that is heard as a result of this natural process of expelling unwanted gas from our digestive system. The sound is a result of the air passing from your anus between your gluteus maximus muscles as the air is pressed against the two largest muscles in your body and is forced out and the vibrations of your muscles create the sound.

More later.
